Indian Pariah Maintenance and Care

  • Feeding

The Indian Pariah dogs are not very fussy canines to feed. They mostly do well on a home-cooked meal which is rich in nutrients. They can be given commercially manufactured food if only it suits their taste buds and is good for their health. Feeding them at regular intervals is beneficial for them rather than giving them large amounts of feeding material all at once.

  • Exercise

These dogs are quite energetic and athletic and do require a fair amount of exercise to remain healthy and fine. They like to go on long runs and walks with their owners, play various games with their loved ones and be engaged in any kind of task that lead to the expenditure of their energy.

  • Training

Training these Indian dogs is not that hard for an experienced owner/trainer. They possess decent intelligence and thus can learn what is being taught to them fairly quickly. The only thing to note is that they are a bit moody and can become distracted and bored while getting trained. Hence, the trainer must be able to make the training sessions more interesting and engaging for these pooches.

  • Grooming and Shedding

As mentioned, this breed is extremely economical to raise and their minimal grooming requirement is one of the reasons for their low-cost maintenance. Their short coat requires occasional brushing, the trimming of nails can be done sporadically and their bathing needs are very low too as they tend to remain quite clean and tidy. These dogs do shed all around the year but in very low amounts.

  • Health Issues

The Indian Pariah dogs are very healthy canines and they stay like this for the majority of their life-span. If proper attention and care are given to them, then the chances of them developing an ailment are extremely low. They can sometimes suffer from skin allergies and tick-related problems, but they are not known to frequently suffer from dangerous health issues like many foreign breeds do.

  • Visits to the Vet

They do not require frequent visits to the veterinarian’s clinic as they are one of the fittest dogs out there.

Indian Pariah History and Background

The Indian Pariah dogs are among the few purebred canines that originated and developed in India. Their true origin is not known to many and is quite vague and unclear. But, it is believed that these dogs are quite ancient and they have been in existence since the Neolithic times.

These dogs were named during the British era and the inspiration behind their name was a tribal group of Tamil Nadu, known as Pariah. The Pariah dogs have thrived for a long time in this country and thus are the most common dogs to be seen here.

They are considered to be a part of a large number of folklore and mythologies, but there are no concrete evidence and facts to prove these stories a hundred percent correct. It is known by many that these dogs are very popular in India but they are also quite famous in Bangladesh and even beyond in South Asia.
