Pekingese is a small-sized Chinese breed that is famous in several parts of the world for its fluffy appearance, cute looks and bold personality. This breed is believed to have originated around 2000 years ago and it is well speculated that these canines were the prized possession of the Chinese royalty. Once Pekes were able to move out of China, they gradually became fairly famous in various countries. The popularity of this breed is still increasing day by day, although at a fairly slow rate.

In India, the demand and availability of Pekingese dogs is quite mediocre. Some people aren't aware of this breed that well, some prefer other popular smaller breeds over the Pekes and some aren't the fan of stubborn and feisty nature of these cute-looking canines. And although these dogs don't have the greatest tolerance to hot weather conditions (weather for which India is most popular for), these dogs can make a decent pet for most Indian dog lovers and potential pet parents. Pekes are highly apartment friendly; they are wonderful watchdogs; they are very affectionate and they are not that expensive to bring home or maintain.

Given below is the average price list of the Pekingese puppies which are available in India in various variations.

  • Pekingese Puppy price (Basic): ₹15,000 to ₹25,000
  • Pekingese Puppy price (KCI registered): ₹25,000 to ₹40,000
  • Pekingese Puppy price (Show Quality): ₹40,000 to ₹60,000

Now, if you want to get a Pekingese from a breeder, then it is very important that you look for your future furry friend at a trusted breeder’s place only. A good breeder will not only provide you a fit and healthy canine, but he can also give you some important tips and information about the pup you are interested in. Information about the sire and dam of the pooch, any health-related concerns et cetera can be very crucial for you and the pup and only a reliable breeder will tell you those things clearly. Many breeders in India do not care about the overall quality of the pooches and they just want to sell them to the naïve customers at unreasonable prices. Hence, you should never compromise on the quality of the pooch and the quality and standards of a breeder. But, finding a reliable and trusted source can be a little difficult for some people.

Factors Affecting the Pekingese Dog Price in India

Now there are various factors that can affect the original Pekingese price in India. These factors are as follows:

Type

There are three different price categories for a Pekingese dog (in India): Basic, KCI Registered and Show Quality.

  • Basic category includes all those dogs and puppies that are not registered to any kennel club including KCI. A basic Pekingese puppy can cost anywhere around ₹15,000.
  • KCI is short for Kennel Club of India and if a dog belongs to KCI Registered category, then it means you will get a canine whose quality is up to the mark. You will also be able to participate in KCI dog shows if your canine is registered and also you will get a KCI registration certificate.
  • A Show Quality dog means that the canine is closest to the ideal as mentioned in the Breed Standards. If you are not planning to participate in dog shows with your pooch, then it does not matter all that much whether you buy a Show Quality dog or a normal Pet Quality one.

Physical Attributes and Characteristics

There are a lot of physical characteristics that can affect the overall price of a dog. Here in the case of Pekingese, their different coat colors can easily influence their price in a region. Pekes are found in a lot of different colors such as Biscuit, Fawn, Cream, Black & Tan, Grey, White, Red et cetera and based on how rare a particular color is, the overall Pekingese dog price gets influenced.

Age & Gender

It is usually seen that male canines are sold at a bit of a higher price as compared to female dogs. Also, it is a well-known thing that young dogs and puppies cost way more when we compare their price to older pooches.

Pure or Mix Breed

The cost of a purebred Pekingese is higher than the mixed-breed as there are lesser chances for a purebred puppy to develop hereditary health problems as compared to the one that is mixed-breed.

Availability and Location

A dog bought from a breeder that is situated in a different state (or any far-away location) will probably cost more if we compare it to the same dog bought from a local breeder. This is because additional charges such as shipping or traveling expenses also add up to the original price of the canine.

Also, breeds that have good availability in an area are normally known to have a lower price tag as compared to those breeds that are believed to be rare in that area. For example, as Pekingese have a mediocre availability in most parts of India, its average price is lower as compared to those breeds whose availability is poorer than the Pekes (like Papillons) but its price is higher than those breeds who are very easily available in India (like Labradors or Chihuahuas).

Reputed Breeder

It is also quite common for the Popular or reputed breeders to sell canines at a bit of a higher price as compared to those breeders who are not as well-known as them. This again influences the overall price of a dog in an area.

Miscellaneous Factors

  • Champion Bloodline: If a dog belongs to a champion bloodline, meaning any of its predecessors (forefathers) were given the title of Champion in an official dog event, then its price can also go fairly high.
  • Microchip: The price of a dog can also increase if it has been microchipped by the KCI. The extremely small pet microchip helps in providing a permanent ID for your pet.
